友達 (ともだち) means "friends" in Japanese. It's one of the most common ways to refer to friends in general.

• 友達 can refer to both singular and plural ("friend" / "friends") depending on context.
• You can also say 親友 (しんゆう) for "close friend" or "best friend."
• To specify someone is your friend, you can say: 私の友達 (わたしのともだち) - "my friend(s)"

Examples:

• 彼は私の友達です。 - He is my friend.
